Why Choose Mediation?

Even when separation is amicable, it can be emotional and overwhelming. Mediation provides a calm and confidential space where you can discuss issues openly and find lasting solutions together.
Here’s how mediation can help:
  • Encourages better communication and understanding.
  • Supports co-parenting and detailed parenting plans.
  • Helps resolve financial and property matters fairly.
  • Documents agreements clearly, and they can be made legally binding.
  • Saves time and money compared to court proceedings.
  • Reduces stress and conflict for everyone involved.
  • Offers flexible solutions that fit your unique family circumstances.

How Mediation Works

Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process. The goal is to help both parties reach an agreement that feels fair and practical.

Here’s what the process looks like in simple terms:

1. Free Consultation – An informal chat to help you understand mediation and decide if it’s right for you.

2. MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) – A private one-to-one session with your mediator to discuss your situation and assess suitability.

3. Joint Mediation Sessions – Where both parties meet (online or face to face) to discuss and agree on outcomes such as child arrangements, finances, or communication plans.

All discussions remain confidential, and you stay in control of the decisions. If mediation isn’t suitable or an agreement can’t be reached, the mediator can provide the required court form (C100) so you can continue your case through legal channels if needed.

What Happens After Mediation?

There are several possible outcomes:

· Agreement Reached: Both parties agree on a solution, and the mediator documents it clearly. It can also be made legally binding through a solicitor.

· Ongoing Discussions: Some issues may need more time, and you can return to mediation later or continue discussions independently.

· No Agreement: If no agreement is reached, you may decide to seek legal advice or court support.

Client Testimonials

"I only reached the MIAM stage of my mediation process as my ex-partner did not want to participate in the mediation process. From the moment I spoke to Joanne she made me feel so comfortable, she’s a very warm person, so approachable I would definitely recommend her."

Client: KJ September 2025

“I can highly recommend Joanne for family mediation, she is very understanding, very patient and will do anything that she can to help you, like signposting you to other helpful services. I was very hesitant at the beginning of the mediation process, and she constantly put me at ease. I’m glad I choose Joanne as it’s been a very positive experience.”
